Team Spotlight on….. Kay Morgan, Aberdare Office Manager
This month, we are continuing our ‘Team Spotlight’ blog series, to help you to get to know us better. This time we chat to Kay Morgan, Office Manager of our Aberdare branch, and a very important staff member as she is often the first person clients speak to.
Morning Kay. How long have you worked for Jones Battye?
“Just over a year now and I love everything about my job! I like being able to walk to work in the morning and working for a local company means I already know a lot of people who come into the office. It helps to build a good rapport.”
What is your typical day like?
“I like to start at about 8am. Gareth, the boss, is often in early too and I like to catch up with him before he goes out for the day. Then, I check to see if we have had any queries or enquiries overnight and deal with those first. The rest of my day is spent typing reports, arranging appointments and speaking to clients.”
What do you like best about your job?
“Apart from feeling that I am helping my local community, I enjoy increasing my own knowledge of buildings, and all the interesting things that can go wrong with them! Our surveyors see some pretty bizarre things sometimes! I also like the responsibility I’m given to sort things out myself and use my own initiate.”
Give us an example.
“Well, soon after I started, I moved my office down to the ground floor. Since then I am pleased to say that the number of clients who walk in from the street to enquire about or to instruct surveys has increased dramatically. Sometimes it’s much easier to communicate face to face than over the phone or via email.”
What is it like to live in Aberdare?
“I’ve lived in Aberdare my whole life and it’s a very welcoming place with a great community spirit. People are very generous. It’s also not far from anywhere else, and it’s easy to get to Cardiff or Swansea and the countryside is right on the doorstep.”
Apart from Aberdare, where else in the world would you like to live?
“I have no plans to move anytime soon, but somewhere hot would be nice. Aberdare weather can be so unpredictable and we don’t seem to have proper seasons anymore, do we? I wouldn’t mind a little 2 bed villa with a pool, not too far away from a town but nice and private. Wonderful!”
