Love Where You Live

February is traditionally the time for love. Usually of the romantic kind, but they do say that ‘Home is where the Heart is’, and we got to thinking about what we love about our homes, where we live and how important that is for our well-being. So, we asked our colleagues the question, “I love my home because…” and in this blog we share a few of the answers.

“I love my home because…I feel part of a community.  Aberdare is genuinely a very friendly place where there is still a sense of looking out for one another.  Having grown up elsewhere, I know that is not always the case.  I also think my home and my garden are important creative outlets for me, even though they are definitely long-term projects!” Eleanor Richards-Jones, Partner

“I love my home because… I like living on the coast in a small community but still close to the city.  Wales has great access to lots of different environments. The sea, the mountains and Cardiff are all within easy reach. I like being able to get outside and enjoy time with my family in the countryside.” Martin Allen, Building Surveyor

“I love my home because…it’s cool in the summer and warm in the winter! No really, you’d be surprised how hard that is to find.  I don’t like modern houses and love my house because it is unusual and quirky but very solid. That’s such a surveyor thing to say, isn’t it?” Gareth Richards-Jones, Partner

“I love my home because… it is a lovely family sized house and is built of stone and has lots of character (including its own ghosts!). I like the area too which is very close to the beautiful Aberdare Park and a short walk to the Dare Valley Country Park.  Aberdare has a lot going for it in terms of locality, scenery, amenities and above all, friendly people.” Kay Morgan, Aberdare Office Manager

Have you ever thought what it is that you love and appreciate about where you live? Or if you are thinking of moving, what are the more intangible things that you are looking for?  Feeling at home is more than just the number of bedrooms or whether you have an en suite, it’s also about finding that more elusive ‘X factor’ – a home’s ‘character’, feeling safe and a sense of belonging are all important.

We know that we are very fortunate to have safe, comfortable homes to live in and that not everyone is so lucky.  More than 1500 children in Wales will be without a home this winter according to homeless charity Shelter Cymru.  That’s why for this coming year we are proud to fund-raise for Shelter Cymru as our nominated company charity and to support them in the fight against bad housing and homelessness.  Everyone has the right to a safe home and like them, we believe that home is everything.  For more information on their work or to donate, please see their website www.sheltercymru.org.uk
